This is another blow-me-away week. Don't get me wrong, I've had plenty of arguing with LJ, he jumps in the back of the van so I can't get him out & kicks off his shoes on the sidewalk every day when I drop him off & Shay* (*not her name) drags him upstairs to finish his meltdown at school. Tuesday, he didn't do much the first half of the day. Wednesday was a little bit better, but not much. Thursday, it was an hour of screaming. Friday, it was 10 minutes of struggle & no screaming. And a fabulous, fabulous day. I think even Shay was surprised at how compliant he was. And this being the day he woke up at some crazy hour - I thought it was 5:30am but DH said he was up when he was up....yikes!
But after assessing some of his skills yesterday (Thursday), and having some great Inclusion time with the regular private school Kindergarten class (during recess and nature walk), he is quickly moving through things. They are going to try to put him in Inclusion during math and language arts next week. I'm probably way more excited than I should be, but I can't help it. After they moved him from preschool to K with full inclusion, then back to ABA Advanced class (with some inclusion), I was really fearful and discouraged that this was going to be a longer road than I thought. I had really hoped that 1 year at this school was going to move the last behavioral mountains with him. We probably still have some biomedical stuff to do, but I'm a minimalist, so if he can learn to get by without and function well, I'd rather do that. And his recent labs from the neurologist are normal, so another reason I'm not sure how much more (definitely more, but how much more?) we should do on that front. But I digress. My hope is back that this is going to be a year of great changes for us.
In the last few weeks, LJ has really picked up the phonics and math that the Leapster games have taught him, and it's showing around the house as he asks me what 5 + 2 = or 3 + 3 =. :) So despite all the additional behaviors, we are receiving joy, joy, joy!
